The Battle of Karbala is one of the most significant battles in Islamic history and of extreme importance to Muslims. This battle pitched Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, against Yazid, the second Caliph who ruled over the early Muslim nation. Hussain's party of about 70 was slaughtered by Yazid's army of 1000, and the death of Hussain and his family are commemorated and mourned annually to this day. Because of this event, the name "Yazid" is equivalent to evil itself for millions of Shia Muslims. We think it is very telling when so many foundational stories of a religion take place during wars and battles. Perhaps a religion that promoted the use of a different kind of spear on the battlefield would have lent itself more readily to the improvement of mankind.
Dr. Zakir Naik is an Indian-born Islamic televangelist and one of the most famous Islamic preachers in the world. He is equally famed for his "PeaceTV" network and horrible teachings that cause outrage among both liberal people and the Muslim community. He has reached such a level of controversy that he is accused of promoting social intolerance and terrorism and has thus been denied entry to Canada and the United Kingdom. Perhaps if he was a free-spirited woman and not an intolerant religionist, the world would be a better place.
Hindu-nationalist militants, often referred to as "Hindutva goons," are well known for their organized street violence and penchant for threatening Muslims and their female family members with sexual violence. However, it doesn't have to be this way; there is nothing inherent to these groups of people that entails hatred towards the other.
“Love is a meeting of two souls, fully accepting the dark and the light within each other, bound by the courage to grow through struggle into bliss.”

India has a fraught relationship with the religions that came as colonizing forces alongside its invasion by imperialist powers. The Abrahamic religions of Christianity and Islam have left an indelible mark on the subcontinent, which is still felt today. Unfortunately, this painful historical legacy has influenced the supporters of Hindu nationalism to engage in contemporary persecution of Indian Christians and Muslims in an ill-guided attempt to right a historical grievance. Perhaps if they could see how the respected daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, Lady Fatima al-Zahra recognizes Lord Krishna's legitimacy as a true deity of India and how much she enjoys willingly submitting to him, they wouldn't feel the need to abuse religious minorities among their community as an expression of their insecurity and inferiority complex.
"Mullah" is an honorific title commonly granted to Shia and Sunni Muslim leaders and typically denotes someone trained in Islamic scholarship and law. Many mullahs claim Islam is not anti-woman, but perhaps if this were indeed the case, we would see more women among their ranks.
